RYANN FERGUSON is a Harper's Guild Award-Winning lyricist and multi-platform writer/producer. Her work for the Style Network and GIADA Magazine has been read by more than a million subscribers.
Her short stories & excerpts of her novels have been published in various literary journals since she was sixteen, when she completed her first novel. She has been mentored by Justin Cronin, Marsha Recknagel, John Burnside, and Don Paterson during her studies at Rice University, where she received a degree in English Literature, as well as the University of St Andrews in Scotland, where she received her Master of Letters with Distinction in creative writing. Her debut novel, Living Donors, is forthcoming.
With her writing partner, Autumn Withers, she has been pitching a slate of female-centric content that has received various commendations from Austin Film Festival, Screencraft, and HBO. They are perhaps the only female writing team in Hollywood to be matchmade by their parents, who were committed hippies together in the 70s. Ryann’s passion for empowering women and female-forward projects extends to the Hollywood Women's Collective, started by her writing partner, Autumn, of which Ryann is a founding member.
Beginning her career in the theatre, the songs of Ferguson & collaborator Steven Jamail have been performed by emerging and legendary Broadway talents Rebecca Luker, Orfeh, Katie Rose Clarke, Teal Wicks, Derek Klena, Kyle Dean Massey, Jeremy Jordan, Haviland Stillwell, and Autumn Hurlbert throughout prestigious New York & Los Angeles venues including Greenroom 42, the Zipper Theatre, Rockwell Table & Stage, Upright Cabaret, Joe’s Pub, and Lincoln Center. As a lyricist, her work can additionally be heard on the hit YouTube series The Battery’s Down (Ghost Light Records) and Rosie O'Donnell's Sirius Satellite radio show.
Her musical VOTE! premiered Off-Broadway at the Minetta Lane Theatre & recently completed a sold-out run at Houston's Theatre Under the Stars. In addition to VOTE!, Ferguson and Jamail are developing three new musicals, Nicholas & Alexandra, Tercio de Muerte, and The Last Toothfairy.
Broadway production credits include Sweeney Todd, Company, Grey Gardens, The Drowsy Chaperone, Spring Awakening, 13, Blithe Spirit, You're Welcome America, Oleanna and the Off-Broadway transfer of Avenue Q.
She has been a guest speaker at Emory University, Rice University, Kanda International University in Tokyo, Seoul National University, University of St. Andrews, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Indiana University- Bloomington.
She lives in Los Angeles in body and Scotland in spirit with her husband, Scottish writer Jonathan Durie, their fluffy calico cat Daisy, and an ever-expanding (oops) assortment of house plants.
